Settlement & Integration

The Chez Settlement & Integration Program

At The Chez, we understand that settling into a new country can be both exciting and challenging. Our Settlement & Integration Program is designed to support newcomers, especially those from African and Afro-Caribbean communities, as they transition into life in Alberta, Canada. Our approach is rooted in cultural competence, empathy, and providing the tools needed to navigate and thrive in a new environment.

Through personalized guidance and support, we aim to empower individuals and families, ensuring they feel at home in their new community while maintaining connections to their cultural roots.

Our Settlement & Integration Programs

Culturally Tailored Settlement Orientation – Our Settlement Orientation Sessions provide newcomers with essential information on Canadian society, laws, and cultural norms. These sessions cover topics such as Canadian rights and responsibilities, navigating social services, and understanding local community structures. By incorporating cultural context into the orientation process, we ensure that newcomers understand how to engage with the systems that will support them while respecting their heritage.

Support with Essential Services & System Navigation – Navigating new systems can be overwhelming. The Chez offers personalized support to help newcomers access essential services such as healthcare, housing, legal aid, and social support networks. We provide step-by-step guidance on how to access and utilize these services, ensuring a smooth transition into everyday life in Canada.

Language and Communication Assistance – Effective communication is key to successful integration. The Chez provides language support services to help newcomers improve their English language skills (ESL/EAL). We offer access to language classes, conversation groups, and one-on-one tutoring to help individuals feel more confident in their ability to communicate in both personal and professional settings. Additionally, we offer interpretation and translation services for important documents, ensuring that newcomers can fully understand and navigate official paperwork.

Assistance with Immigration & Legal Processes – We provide practical support for newcomers navigating the immigration process, including assistance with family reunification, work permits, and residency applications. Our team offers guidance and referrals to trusted legal professionals who specialize in immigration law, ensuring that individuals and families have access to accurate information and support when dealing with legal matters.

Dedicated Support for Vulnerable Groups – For those in particularly vulnerable situations, such as unaccompanied minors, The Chez offers specialized services to support their integration into Canadian society. We provide a safe, structured environment for minors, ensuring they have access to the support systems they need. Our programs are designed to help them adjust to their new surroundings while safeguarding their emotional and physical well-being.

Community Connection & Networking – Building connections is a crucial part of the integration process. Our Community Integration Programs focus on creating opportunities for newcomers to meet and connect with others in the local community. This includes social events, mentorship programs, and community-building activities, allowing newcomers to form friendships, share experiences, and build a strong social support network.

Cultural Integration & Well-Being Support – While it’s important to integrate into Canadian society, we also recognize the importance of maintaining a strong connection to cultural roots. Our Cultural Enrichment Programs support newcomers in celebrating and sharing their cultural heritage through art, music, and community events. We also provide wellness support to ensure newcomers feel emotionally and mentally supported throughout their integration journey.
